January 3, 2015 -- Phoenix, Arizona, USA

As a prelude to another attempt to hike the entire Camino Francés from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain (about 500 miles), I am traveling to Belgium, France and Spain, leaving on January 11. I didn't plan to blog this voyage, but several people have nothing better to do at work than to read boring blogs online asked me to write up the trip, so I will.

I'll arrive in Brussels, Belgium on January 12. From there the trip goes by train to Paris and Avignon in France, Girona in Spain, back to Montpelier and then Paris again in France, and finally back to Brussels for the flight back to Phoenix.

Those of you who read this blog during my attempt to hike the Camino last summer know that I was forced to abandon just over halfway due to a sprain of the quadriceps tendon in my left leg. Six months later, it is still not completely healed, but I will be doing some shorter walks carrying a backpack and lots of longer walks without the pack during this trip to test the leg and try to determine if I will be able to do the full 500-mile hike this summer.

The next entry will probably be January 11 on my way to Brussels.

Hi, Dad. I am looking forward to reading about the places you will see and the people you will meet. Also, the observations in Paris after the recent tragedy.
